Maximizing the Best Travel Credit Card Bonus Offers

Had a great day at the Executive Travel Summit and meeting everybody there. We had a great discussion about the future on points as a currency and the inner workings of hotel loyalty programs.

I was also introduced to a great charity aggregation and donation team called Kula. They turn unused or unwanted reward points into donations to your favorite charity. They have a massive database of 1000s of charitable and non profit organizations to choose from.

It was all good fun and I know this weekend’s FT University will bring even more misadventures and memories.

Maximize Best Travel Credit Cards

You can find all the best deals on my Best Travel Credit Card page and more airline credit cards on my Best Airline Credit Card.

It is always a good idea to dictate your own award future. Research, research, and more research. This is the best way to Maximize Travel Credit Cards and not have huge balances in programs you will never use.

Trip Report to Boston: Getting to Boston and Hotel Review

ANNOUNCEMENT: Ink Bold, Ink Cash and Ink Classic are all being pulled from my site by tomorrow at 10am! If you are wondering about getting those cards I would apply now. It is obvious Chase is rolling back all of their signup bonus offers and we do not know what their next offer will look like. Lock in the best deals now.

If you click the INK BOLD image on the right you will be getting the 50k Ultimate Rewards Points after $5,000 spend within 3 months offer, the best current offer for that card. By using my links you are supporting my blog which Fernanda and I truthfully appreciate.

Changing gears a bit today. We will be stepping away from my British Airways Avios Guide Series, there are already 8 PARTS!, and I will be sharing my trip report to Boston.

I surprised Fernanda with a road trip to Boston for the weekend. We really had no knowledge about Boston, except that I hate all of their overrated sports franchises, and were open to the new experience.

We decided to go Wednesday before St. Patty’s day which helped avoid the crowds and debauchery that day’s festivities bring.

Roadtrip

Since The BX is only a 4 hr drive from Boston and because airfare was insanely expensive, we took to the open road. I am glad we did decide to drive because it afforded us the ability to take the trip in at our own pace.

Sometimes I forget how nice it can be to drive across states and I was looking forward to this experience. It also saved us tons of money which always helps to float my spirits higher.

Made a quick stop over in New Haven to get my fuel, large iced coffee, and we were good to go.

To kill time we drank Yerba Mate while listening to the radio. It only took a little over 4 hours to get there and only hit traffic once we got into Boston proper.

For Love or Miles: Extra Miles for Flagship First Class

****Because of the Surprise Announcement of 100k Avios Points Chase British Airways card offer I will be introducing some posts that will discuss how to maximize these miles. Some of these posts will re-hash:

  • How to Search and Book a Partner Award Flight
  • Overview of the BA taxes/fees
  • The Best Redemption Options for Domestic short-haul
  • The Best Redemption Options for International
  • 2-for-1 Travel Companion Pass Breakdown
  • Strengths of BA Avios Points
  • and more…
  • So stay tuned as I release these posts throughout the week. It is my favorite program and I look forward to sharing it with all of you. Now back to the post.

    ****

Before Fernanda left on March 26 I decided to change her departure date.

She had off from school April 2 for Remembered of the War of the Malvinas. So if we had found availability she could have stayed until April 1.

Sometimes the award space teases you. There was milesAAver availability for dates around this but we could not find anything for her to stay the weekend. We could only bump her an extra 5 days, having her leave on Friday.

    From Economy to First

The First Class milesAAver award costs 62.5k AAdvantage miles but an economy milesAAver would have been 30k AAdvantage but this being off-peak it was only 20k miles.

The economy award would have been much more affordable and long-term focused but none were available. This is one of those moments where cents per mile just slip away and you begin to focus on the moment. What is really important, time with somebody you care about or an 40k miles?

So for the first time ever, one of us would be flying in something other than Economy Class.
