****Because of the Surprise Announcement of 100k Avios Points Chase British Airways card offer I will be introducing some posts that will discuss how to maximize these miles. Some of these posts will re-hash:
So stay tuned as I release these posts throughout the week. It is my favorite program and I look forward to sharing it with all of you. Now back to the post.
Before Fernanda left on March 26 I decided to change her departure date.
She had off from school April 2 for Remembered of the War of the Malvinas. So if we had found availability she could have stayed until April 1.
Sometimes the award space teases you. There was milesAAver availability for dates around this but we could not find anything for her to stay the weekend. We could only bump her an extra 5 days, having her leave on Friday.
From Economy to First
The First Class milesAAver award costs 62.5k AAdvantage miles but an economy milesAAver would have been 30k AAdvantage but this being off-peak it was only 20k miles.
The economy award would have been much more affordable and long-term focused but none were available. This is one of those moments where cents per mile just slip away and you begin to focus on the moment. What is really important, time with somebody you care about or an 40k miles?
So for the first time ever, one of us would be flying in something other than Economy Class.
Flagship Suite First Class
This route operates AA’s Flagship Suite First Class product, I knew that she would be blown away and AA did not let me down.
In stereotypical Argentine style Fernanda was the last one to board the plane. But they still had a glass of champagne there to greet her when she claimed her seat.
When you enter the plane on this flight you get on board in the business section and this disoriented her. She spent a solid minute spinning around looking for 1J until a flight attendant mercifully stepped in to guide her to first class.
The first class cabin was only half full for the flight and that made for great service.
She sent me tons of photos of her flight and she really had a blast. Here are some of the highlights.
She also loved the fact that she didn’t have to wait for a movie to be shown. She had the controls and could watch any on-demand and had a greater selection to choose from.
Then she noticed all the goody’s that came along with first class. She loved the blanket, the Bose Headphones and the AAmenity kit.
First Class Food Service
Then came the dinner service. She really loved it and naturally she went with the Steak. She thought it was not just plane food good but passable for on-the-ground eating as well.
She had a great time on the flight and the crew could not have been more helpful. The only problem was once the attendants stopped coming around she was trigger shy about calling the attendants back for any requests.
She was not bothered by the Galley lights or from anybody using the bathroom. She had 3 windows to herself and loved being in 1J. Hopefully we will get back there one day but for now we have to be more frugal with our trips.
The extra five days together were worth the 40k more AAdvantage miles. The super bonus was me being able to surprise her with a first class seat back home to Buenos Aires.
Thanks to all my miles and points I have earned from being an active member in this community it helped make a sad moment just a bit better. I hope all of you have found miles/points as useful as I have.
What were some of your most “I am glad I have miles” moments?
